On behalf of the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel, I want to welcome you to our nationally recognized website. We hope you enjoy the site and are able to utilize many of the wonderful federation offerings.
The roots of the FDCC can be traced to an evening at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City when a group of respected attorneys met and formed what was then named the FIC. Since its founding the Federation has sought the best and brightest to join its ranks. Some of its members have later become U.S. Court of Appeals Judges; been elected to state and federal office; become confidants with Presidents; and developed reputations as authorities in their fields through their prolific writings and legal skills. Limited to 1000 U.S. defense counsel; a vibrant group of international members; corporate counsel; house counsel from leading insurance companies; and risk managers from corporations throughout the world, our members represent the lifeblood of the organization.
Why do we exist? The organization is based on three key principles; KNOWLEDGE, JUSTICE, and FELLOWSHIP. Twice a year, Federation members gather at our meetings to participate in some of the highest quality CLE you will find anywhere, the majority of which is put on by our own members. Throughout the year, we also have interesting and important programs, such as our Corporate Counsel Symposium, the Insurance Industry Institute and the Law Firm Management Conference. The Litigation Management College and Graduate Program is an annual week long conference during which FDCC members work with claims professionals to teach various elements of claims evaluation and handling.
The second foundational principle of the organization is justice. We constantly strive to protect our system of Justice. Through our participation in the Lawyers for Civil Justice and the ABOTA Roundtable we work with the leadership of various bar associations, legal organizations and companies to ensure there truly is justice for all in our judicial system. The Federation also actively pursues the administration of Justice by participating in cases that raise issues of major significance to our legal system. This involvement entails filing Amicus Curiae Briefs as a friend of the court.
Finally, we believe that the fellowship in the Federation is unique to any other legal organization. Many have said the Federation is the friendliest organization they’ve ever been involved in anywhere at any time. Thorough involvement in the Federation, members develop friendships with colleagues that last a lifetime. It is not unusual for our members to develop relationships that go beyond the organization – vacationing together, visiting in each others homes and attending weddings and life events.
At our annual meeting each summer and at our winter meeting, we meet at some of the finest resorts in the world. It is during those times that we recognize the value of friendship, camaraderie, and restoration to re-energize before going back to the profession we love so dearly.
I am proud to welcome you on behalf of the Federation family. If your questions haven’t been answered by viewing this website, please feel free to contact our Executive Director, Marty Streeper, for any additional information you might need.
